Chapter 26
Elizabeth's aunt warns her against a relationship with Wickham. Elizabeth says that it wouldn't be smart match, but if it happens, she won't turn away. Soon, the Gardiners and Jane leave and Charlotte becomes Mrs. Collins. Charlotte invites Elizabeth to visit her at Hunsford, and Elizabeth accepts. Jane writes home that she saw Miss Bingley, who says that Mr. Bingley is scarcely around. Jane finally accepts that all hope with Mr. Bingley is gone. Wickham has removed his attentions from Elizabeth for a more wealthy lady, and Elizabeth realizes she never loved him and she is glad of his leave.
Chapter 27
A few months later, Elizabeth, a younger Lucas, and Charlotte's father all go to visit Charlotte. On the way there, Elizabeth reflects on Wickham, considering him to be a perfect model of a man. Before they reach Hunsford, they stop to visit Jane, who is doing better. Jane is still regretting her entanglement with the Bingleys. Elizabeth and her aunt discuss Wickham, and she finds that she is more hurt by him than she will admit.
Chapter 28
When Elizabeth arrives at Hunsford, Mr. Collins shows off her home, giving her second thoughts about her refusal of his proposals. Elizabeth sees Charlotte is happier than she expected, due to Mr. Collins frequent absences. The next day, Elizabeth meets the sickly daughter of Lady Catherine, reflecting that she would be a perfect match for Darcy. She also learns that they will dine at Rosings Park, the home of Lady Catherine, the next evening.
Chapter 29
Mr. Collins talks only of Lady Catherine de Bourgh for the whole day. The next day at the dinner, Lady Catherine is found to be quite bossy. She talks without stop asking dozens of questions and chiding Elizabeth for all her answers, saying that she was raised wrong.
Chapter 30
Elizabeth also finds out that Lady Catherine is very involved in the community and that the Collinses dine there very frequently. They also learn that Darcy is expected to visit in a few weeks. When he arrives, he comes to Hunsford to visit the Collinses. Elizabeth is clearly the reason for the visit and she asks him if he has seen Jane while in London. This confuses Darcy, who has not seen Jane in the last three months.
