Lady Catherine
Lady de Bourgh is largely characterized by her wealth. She looks down on the lower classes and turns her nose up at any association with them. This is shown through Mr. Collins praise of her condescension and her "useful advice." Lady Catherine considers herself the expert on any and all topics. Her distaste of the lower class is particularly shown when she tries to dissuade Elizabeth of marrying Darcy. As soon as she hears that her name might be connected with a family such as the Bennets, she tries to use her power to drive them away. This has little of the effect she desires on Elizabeth. Rather, it only makes her more in love with Darcy. Lady Catherine represents the nobility of England at the time and their true feelings towards others.
