Jane Bennet
Jane Bennet shares a very close relationship with her sister, Elizabeth. As a result, she plays a very large role in the book. Jane is characterized by her willingness to see the best in everyone. She can never see anything but the best intentions in their actions. Jane's optimism and trust leads her into trouble later in the book. When Mr. Bingley breaks off his connection with her, she believes that he did it for the right reasons. She is very willing to forgive him when he realizes what he has lost. Jane and Elizabeth are polar opposites, because Elizabeth judges others harshly and Jane tries not to judge others at all! In the story, Jane eventually becomes more cautious of trusting others.

Jane's main role in the story is providing a way to connect Darcy to Elizabeth. After all, it is through Bingley, Jane's love interest, that Elizabeth meets Darcy. Jane also provides insight into Elizabeth's opinion. Since Jane is so close to Elizabeth, this provides a window into their opinions on other people and each other. Jane is the nicest character in the book.
